How paper-chain.io checks a Letter of Credit presentation
paper-chain.io is document checking software. It examines a Letter of Credit presentation against the UCP 600 rules and ISBP 821 practice before the set goes to the bank, so discrepancies are found while they can still be fixed.
The four steps
Add the LC terms and upload the document set
Paste or upload the SWIFT MT700 or MT707 message and the software reads the LC fields automatically — credit number, amount and tolerance, currency, expiry and presentation period, latest shipment date, Incoterm, goods description, and the documents required. You can also enter the terms by hand. Then add the presentation documents themselves.
Run the UCP 600 and ISBP 821 examination
45 checks examine the set: the credit's own structure, the examination rules in UCP 600 Article 14, each commercial and transport document against its governing article, the amount and quantity tolerances, and the cross-document consistency rules from ISBP 821. Every finding is graded blocker, major, minor or advisory, with the article it comes from and a hint on how to fix it.
Anchor the document-bundle hash on XRPL
A SHA-256 hash of the document bundle is written to the XRP Ledger as tamper-evident evidence of exactly what was examined and when. No wallet and no crypto knowledge are needed — the anchoring happens for you.
Download the bank-ready package
You get a findings report listing every discrepancy by severity, grouped by the document it belongs to, plus a verification certificate carrying the XRPL transaction reference. Fix what the report flags, then present to your bank.
Documents the check covers
A typical documentary-credit presentation set:
- SWIFT MT700 / MT707 message, or the LC terms entered manually
- Commercial invoice
- Transport document — bill of lading, non-negotiable sea waybill, charter party bill of lading, air waybill, or road, rail and inland waterway document
- Insurance policy or certificate
- Packing list
- Certificate of origin
- Bank presentation letter
- Any other document the credit calls for
How findings are graded
| Severity | What it means |
|---|---|
| Blocker | A discrepancy a bank would be entitled to refuse the presentation on. Fix before presenting. |
| Major | A material inconsistency that commonly draws a refusal notice under UCP 600 Article 16. |
| Minor | A smaller defect that may or may not be raised, depending on the examining bank. |
| Advisory | Not a discrepancy, but worth knowing before the set goes in. |

Common questions
Do my documents get uploaded to a server?
No. Document files are read and processed locally in your browser. Only a one-way SHA-256 hash of the document bundle is anchored to the XRP Ledger, and a hash cannot be reversed to reveal document content.
How long does a check take?
Minutes. The examination runs as soon as the LC terms and the document set have been added, and the findings report is produced immediately afterwards.
Which documents can I check?
A typical presentation set: the SWIFT MT700 message or LC terms, commercial invoice, transport document such as a bill of lading, sea waybill or air waybill, insurance document, packing list, certificate of origin and the bank presentation letter.
Does a clear result guarantee the bank will accept the presentation?
No. Clearance Confidence is an estimate produced by automated UCP 600 and ISBP 821 checks. It is not a guarantee of bank acceptance, and the bank still runs its own formal examination.
